It was one of the hot days of August 99, I (Robert) was sent to perform a technical mission to a Client of BIG (The Company I work for). At that time I was working on connecting all branches of Delta Trading South, North Beirut … to the main Branch in Bekaa. I analyzed the project very well and found that I should start with the branches to finish up by the end of the day in the main Branch. I discussed the plan with Tony (my Boss, and like a brother to me), the only comment I got on my plan was: “Poor Robert, you will not have the opportunity to see the sweet hearts up there in the main branch, Good Luck in your mission”. For me this was a hint, and usually when Tony say about a Girl a sweetheart he means it. After a long and tough day I finally reached the main Branch at 3:40 PM, but unfortunately all employees leave at 4:00 PM, Tony buddy you were 100% right.
I visited the Sales and Operation Department, and announced my arrival for them not to close the floor because I have some work to do and then decided to go up to the administration floor to salute the owners of the company which at that time was the only reason I found to check out the sweet hearts as described by Tony.
While going out of the Sales department, I knew that I am late and will not find anybody up. Near the main gate a group of employees went out of the gate, I started looking in deep, to realize what Tony means, but unfortunately non of them was my style, and specially all I wanted is an everlasting love, not less not more. So I decided to continue my technical mission, and ignore my heart. Stepping into the first stare I met a young and dynamic Lady, wearing brown clothes with brown sunglasses. At that moment my mind freezed and my heart started playing music. I won’t say it is a Love from the first look, however the girl attracted my attention a lot who made me not finish my technical mission at that day.
The next day I decided to set my trip back to Bekaa to finish my mission as all my friends knew, and to meet the Sweet Heart my heart asked for. In Bekaa I knew it will be a day full of adventures since a Girl like her, getting out of work at 4:00 Pm with dynamic behavior and smiley face, would be hard to attract her attention. I thought of a way to start my heart’s mission, after I finished my technical mission, and it was simply installing our ERP software on the PCs in the company, and definitely I will start with the administration floor. Guess which computer to start with??? Yes It was Hilda’s Computer at work, I went to her office after informing Nicolas Maalouf (the operation manager) about my new mission. I introduced myself to Hilda and
I said: “Hi, this could be a bad day for you since I will not let you work on your PC, because I have to install a new system on it”
Hilda Replied: “Don’t Worry I will work on friend’s PC”
And then I relaxed since the first step is done and the next step is very clear, wherever she goes I will follow her to install the PC she is working on. What was very helpful is that she has never asked to use a PC that I have finished working on, and here is how our story started.
Visual BIG (our ERP system) was also one of my best friends, you know as a software company you have to have a suppost department to be able to support your clients who work on your software and that what I exactly did, I have moved to help the support department in their work, logging on remotely through PCAnywhere to our clients. At that time I was lucky because the Main branch required new development which made me logon to their branch. My Luck has doubled when I knew that PCAnywhere (the software that controls a client machine remotely over the phone) is installed on Hilda’s Machine. Unfortunately when I used to login to Hilda’s Machine she used to call me and say when you finish can you please shut down my PC, and I reply very sadly by yes, until a bright opinion flashed into my mind.
Why won’t I change the environment of Hilda’s PC to a romantic one and try send her Romantic messages, so that she will notice of what I am trying to do, specially that she her first impression towards dealing with me was more than perfect. My technique was changing the background of her PC Desktop the first time to a picture of a garden, signed at the bottom “to a shining smile like this Garden in Spring”.
The next day I called Hilda at the main branch to check out if everything is working fine, and to see what she has to say about what she saw on her PC, She responded with a smile, what a nice background, I like it can you send me more?
I knew everything is going fine, so I moved forward, and the next day I have sent her a background picture of a Red Flower signed at the bottom “A flower like you turns winter into spring, Rain into sunshine”, Hilda liked the pictures and the phrases a lot.
Going a bit further, I visited the main branch to do some maintenance, I asked Hilda to work on her PC as usual, she gave me her PC and sat beside me, watching, and asking about our nature of work. I am a kind of a dreamer, I started planning for future moves, I started asking her questions like :
Robert: Are you interested in programming?
Hilda: Yes I am very much interested, I have learned computer science, but never did any practice.
Robert: Do you love working here in Bekaa or you prefer Beirut?
Hilda: I like Beirut a lot, I like the way people enjoy their life down there.
Robert: would you consider moving down to Beirut?
Hilda: how can I move and I don’t have any opportunity down in Beirut?
Robert: I promise I will help you to fulfill your dreams
Days and Days went by, Hilda’s attention started to grow towards me, taking care of me when I go to their company, buy me lunch, Leave for me Chocolate and Chips in the drawer…
One Saturday and after I was sure of what I am feeling, I asked Hilda out to have cocktail and cake in Cafe Creme in Zahle, and asked her if she would accept to be my Girlfriend. I thought she will reply on the spot but she didn’t, she said “give me some time, I want to think more of the topic”
Waited one week and she didn’t reply so I asked her out again, requested an answer on Last week question, at that moment I was very much disturbed, because I thought if I mean anything to her she would have answered. When she saw me in this situation, she said yes, Ohh God I relaxed, and been the happiest man ever, but this happiness lasted for only 5 minutes when my mind woke up and asked this question:
“Why didn’t Hilda answer me on the spot, is there anybody else she might have been thinking of?”
I stayed confused for more than half an hour asking myself should I ask her this question Yes or No?
I saw her very happy, which means my thoughts are wrong, but again I decided to ask her this question, and here what was her answer:
“A special relation with a special Person like you has to have a special date, Today is 02-09-1999, I thought we can wait 7 more days to start our relation at 09-09-1999, but I thought I might loose you, that is why I forgot everything, and said yes today”
Life went by the first month of our relation and it was hard for me seeing Hilda just once or twice a week, I knew this relation will not grow healthy if it stayed like that, so I decided to help her to move to Beirut. I started teaching Hilda the Art of Computer Science, One month in time Hilda has moved to Beirut, and Joined BIG Staff, and currently she is a Senior Developer in the Web Development Department.

First time Robert went to work in Delta Trading Bekaa branch, I saw his car in the parking; it attracted my attention, so I asked Nicolas about the owner of it.
Nicolas said that it belongs to Robert, Tony Azar’s guy, and he is married so don’t even think of him.
Time has passed by and it was the time for Robert to work in the administration Department. It was around 4:00 PM, I was waiting near the gate for the Taxi to come and pick me up, when I turned around to see that Robert has just arrived, holding a business bag in his hand. I started imagining how his wife looks like, a girl with curly brown hair, wearing a short skirt, and holding a business bag in her hand.
The next day, Nicolas surprised me by announcing that Robert is not married, so my dreams began...
